Kitchen Surface Refresh

Kitchen Surface Refresh

Project Overview

A focused kitchen clean in Seattle addressing the grease film that builds on every working surface in a household that cooks daily. Extraction hoods, splashbacks, cabinet fronts and the gaps between appliances were treated as the core of the job rather than a finishing touch. The visit was deliberately scoped to one room so the time went into depth instead of coverage.

The Challenge

Airborne grease had bonded to the underside of wall units and to the extractor housing, where it had been heated repeatedly and was no longer a surface deposit. Several cabinet fronts were matt lacquer, which lifts if degreaser is left on it. Appliances also had to be moved and returned without marking the floor.

Key Highlights

  • Extractor housing and filters stripped and degreased
  • Wall unit undersides and splashbacks treated
  • Matt lacquer fronts cleaned without lifting the finish
  • Appliances drawn out and refitted without floor damage

Project Goals

The goal was to reset the kitchen to a standard routine cleaning could then maintain, rather than to do a light pass that would need repeating within weeks. Getting behind and beneath the appliances was central to that, since those gaps are where the film originates. We also wanted the household to keep using the room the same day.

Key Challenges

  • Heat-bonded grease on extractor and unit undersides
  • Matt lacquer fronts damaged by prolonged degreaser
  • Appliances needing safe removal and refitting
  • Room had to return to use the same day
